Emergency exit doors, lights installed on cabins

New emergency exit doors on cabins

Wahsega 4-H Center has installed emergency exit doors and emergency lighting on all guest and seasonal staff cabins. The new doors on the back of each cabin open to a small landing with handrails and provide an additional exit in case of a fire.

New smoke detectors were also installed. The new detectors are integrated with new emergency lighting inside the room and outside at each door. If power is lost or if the smoke detectors go off, the battery powered lights will come on.

These improvements have been a welcome and necessary upgrade. The cabins at Wahsega were built in 1938 after the CCC turned the site over to the Recreation department of the Works Project Administration. Most of the cabins have remained almost completely unchanged since that time except for the addition of paneling on the inside walls.

If you would like to join the effort to continue to make Wahsega a great place for youth, let us know or contact the Georgia 4-H Foundation.
