What to pack for your fall Environmental Education field study at Wahsega
Schools are on their way to Wahsega this fall and we've been planning and preparing for your visit for several months. Now that it's almost time for the trip to Wahsega, a lot of you are probably wondering what to pack.
What about shoes? No flip-flops or other sandals without a heel strap for wearing around the center, instead wear tennis shoes or some other shoe that stays on your feet.
Find out from the school what classes your group is signed up for. A lot of students will take classes that involve wading in the stream such as stream ecology or gold panning. If that's the case for you, it is best to have a pair of sandles with a heel strap or old shoes that can get wet in addition to dry shoes for just walking around in. Warning! Don't plan to walk around in wet shoes the whole time you are here -- this causes blisters and will make your stay here something less than pleasant.
Also, students are never allowed to go bare foot at Wahsega. Many classes require a good bit of walking, so be sure to bring comfortable hiking shoes. We recommend something other than flip-flops or sandals with no heel strap.
On to other clothes... The latest and greatest fashions for school are not safe from dirt and wear and tear here at Wahsega. Often, t-shirts and older shorts are better than your new school clothes. Plan to wear something comfortable each day. You may also want to bring an extra change of clothes just in case you get wet from the stream or if it rains.
Rain gear is important. We continue with outdoor classes even in the rain if it's not coming down to hard. You will need to get from one building to the other in the rain as well. A waterproof jacket, umbrella, raincoat or other gear
We look forward to seeing you this fall.
