4-H Environmental Education provides safe and economical field studies

As the nation's largest provider of residential and day use environmental education, the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program invites your school to participate in this nationally acclaimed program. Operating September through May, Rock Eagle, Wahsega, Jekyll and Tybee provide sites throughout the state for quality field study experiences that are safe and economical. Research-based curriculum correlates to Georgia's Quality Core Curriculum, providing hands-on learning in the real world.

Those interested in the current national dialogue about education reform will want to pay attention to what ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) has to say about environmental education. Current evidence supports that compared to traditional educational approaches, environmental-based education improves academic performance across the curriculum. Integrated educational experiences have demonstrated enhanced student performance and improved student/teacher relationships.

In order to learn more about our program, please send a representative from your school to our Spring Teacher Observation Day on April 25, 2002 at Rock Eagle, Jekyll Island, Tybee Island and Wahsega 4-H Centers. To register, e-mail a participant's name, school, county and site preference to Maria Bowie at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. This activity is FREE and includes lunch, T-shirts and the opportunity to see the program in action.

Endorsed by the Georgia Department of Education and in compliance with the time-on-task ruling, the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program is operated by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. We look forward to serving your students!
