Wahsega 4-H Center: Historical Information: News Archive

Jonathan Barron named Wahsega's 2002 lead summer camp counselor

Congratulations to Jonathan Barron who was named lead summer camp counselor at Wahsega 4-H Center for the summer of 2002. As is tradition in the Georgia 4-H Summer Camping Program, the state's lead summer camp counselors were given their specific job duties on Sunday, January 13th following interviews for first year camp counselors on Friday and Saturday.

Jonathan is one of only two fifth year counselors out of approximately 90 young men and women who will serve the program this year. His diverse career with the camping program includes two years at Rock Eagle 4-H Center where he provided leadership as a head lifeguard his second summer. Two summers ago he worked at Tybee Island 4-H Center and last year he was a counselor here at Wahsega.

With the announcement of his duties as lead counselor, Jonathan begins a year-long role that begins in earnest with Leadership Training Weekend in mid-January and ends with the Christmas Reunion in December. Among the many duties Jonathan will perform between now and the end of the year are selection of his team of counselors for the summer, planning and leading training events, directing the summer program and editing the massive Lead Couinselor Outline.

The full-time staff at Wahsega look forward to working with him this year. He has the maturity, willingness to shoulder the responsibility, sense of humor, love for youth and respect of his peers needed to be a successful lead counselor. With Jonathan leading a team of dedicated counselors, we expect Wahsega to be a great place for youth to have a wonderful experience at summer camp in 2002.

In addition to Jonathan, Andy Haygood, Matt Williamson, Katie Lewis, Sommer Statham, Jennifer Nowicki, Julie Atkinson and Austin Carter are expected to join us this summer. With Jonathan leading this team of dedicated counselors, we expect Wahsega to be a great place for youth to have a wonderful experience at summer camp in 2002.
