Wahsega 4-H Center

Our General Location

Wahsega 4-H Center is located 12 miles north of downtown Dahlonega, Georgia. We are on Forest Service Road 28, one mile from the entrance to Camp Frank D. Merrill Army Ranger Training Facility. The 4-H center is in a valley shared by Ward Creek on property owned by the University of Georgia in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

If you or your transportation provider uses a GPS device or online maps to find us, you will most likely get lost. Please use the maps and directions below.

Directions

From the Atlanta area:

  • Take GA 400 North out of Atlanta.
  • Go all the way to the end of GA 400, which is about 53 miles from the exit off I-85 to GA 60 in Lumpkin County.
  • Take a LEFT towards Dahlonega on GA 60/US 19 North where GA 400 ends and becomes a 2-lane road.
  • Travel about 5.4 miles from the end of GA 400 to the first traffic light.
  • Turn RIGHT at the traffic light onto Morrison Moore Parkway/GA 60.
  • Continue through the 1st traffic light.
  • At the 2nd traffic light, turn LEFT onto E. Main St. (There will be a Walmart on your right and a RiteAid on your left.)
  • Go approximately 1/2 mile to the first traffic light and turn RIGHT onto North Grove St.
  • Watch for signs pointing the way to Camp Frank D. Merrill, the Army Ranger Training Camp, and Wahsega 4-H Center.
  • Travel 2.2 miles to Camp Wahsega Rd.
  • Take a LEFT onto Camp Wahsega Rd.
  • Travel 8.5 miles to the Army Ranger Training Camp at the end of Camp Wahsega Rd.
  • Curve around the barricades and pull up to the stop sign (the military check point will be straight ahead).
  • Turn LEFT onto Forest Road 28-1 (This road is gravel after about 100 feet of pavement).
  • Travel 1 mile.
  • Turn LEFT into Wahsega 4-H Center.

From the Athens area:
  • Take US 129/Jefferson Hwy./Pierce Avenue north out of Athens to Gainesville.
  • In Gainesville, stay on GA 60 when US 129 splits from the main highway.
  • Continuing on GA 60, cross the end of GA 400 in Lumpkin County.
  • Travel about 5.4 miles from the end of GA 400 to the first traffic light.
  • Turn RIGHT at the traffic light onto Morrison Moore Parkway/GA 60.
  • Continue through the 1st traffic light.
