A Trip Planning Guide for Teachers
USE OF LOCAL PARKS

Contents

About the parks
Because schools may not arrive early, some teachers like to go to a park in Dahlonega for a bag lunch before arrival. The Dahlonega City Park has a small restroom and four or five covered picnic tables and playground equipment. Hancock Park near the downtown square has a large pavilion and grass lawn but it has no restrooms or playground equipment.

Reserving a park

  • You must call ahead to reserve a park for your group.
  • Use of a park is free.
  • Call the Dahlonega City Hall at 706-864-6133 to make reservations

Directions to the parks
Going north on Georgia 400 from the Atlanta area or north on Georgia 60 from Gainesville, turn left where 400 ends or continue straight if you are on GA 60, this is GA 60 North. It goes directly to Dahlonega. Near Dahlonega, there is a Shell station on the right at the top of a hill. Chestatee Regional Hospital and McDonalds are half-way down the hill on the left.

Dahlonega City Park: At the stoplight at the bottom of the hill, turn right onto U.S. 19 & GA 60. Go less than a mile. Turn right onto Riley Rd. The ball field is on the left. Follow Riley road around and behind the field. City Hall is directly ahead and the Park and Recreation building will be on the left. Proceed to City Hall. The public park area is on the right as you face City Hall.

Hancock Park: At the stoplight at the bottom of the hill, go straight. At the square, curve around the Gold Museum (old court house) and continue straight to the first traffic light. Turn left and go one block. Turn at the first left and go 3 blocks. Hancock Park is on the left. Park along the streets beside the park.
