Environmental Educator for Wahsega 4-H Center
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Lead K-12 students in multi-disciplinary classes in the outdoors at Wahsega 4-H Center in the North Georgia Mountains near Dahlonega. Wahsega 4-H Center is a residential educational facility for students attending 1-, 2- or 3-day field studies.
Class subjects offered include both life and earth science, survival skills, team building, high- and low-ropes challenges, and pioneer living skills. Two weeks of paid, in-depth training in all subject areas is provided. Other duties include care of captive wildlife in the herpetology lab, curriculum development, assisting in cleanup of facilities at the end of each session and 2 to 3 hours of KP (Kitchen Patrol) each week.
REQUIREMENTS:
Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well-developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability; Bachelor’s degree in Education, Natural Science, Environmental Education, Biology, Forestry, Outdoor Education, or related fields preferred. Separate staff housing provided on-site; we do not require staff to chaperone children overnight. Inquire about internships for college seniors. Successful applicants will be required to authorize a background check which must clear before starting work.
LOCATION:
Live and work at Wahsega 4-H Center in the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest just minutes from the Appalachian Trail, cascading waterfalls and numerous other recreational opportunities.
SEASON:
Spring 2010 -- March 1 to May 29
SALARY:
8.95/hr with room and board available for $70 per week. Higher salary available for individuals with relevant verifiable experience with Georgia 4-H Environmental Education or other environmental education centers. Ask about verification procedure.
